What to consider on a motorcycle tour through Montenegro

28. 02. 2025.

Spring is on the horizon, and we all know that it is the most beautiful season for scooter tours through Montenegro. Rent your scooter from us in Tivat and set off on winding Montenegrin roads on an adventure you will remember for the rest of your life. In this text, we will look at what is important for you to know about the current traffic regulations in Montenegro, as well as what you should take into account when planning a motorcycle tour through our country.

Traffic regulations in Montenegro

It should be mentioned that if you have an EU driving license, it is accepted in Montenegro, and you do not need an international driving permit. An international driving permit will be required for non-EU citizens. Other things we would like to point out are:

• Wearing a helmet is mandatory for both drivers and passengers.
• According to the current Montenegrin law, headlights are mandatory, regardless of the time of day. Motorcycles equipped with LED headlights are exempt from this.
• When it comes to speed limits, the following rules apply: 50 km/h for driving through populated areas, 80 km/h on rural roads and 100 km/h on the highway.
• Overtaking a convoy is prohibited.
• The toll for the Sozina tunnel is €1.00 for motorcycles, while on the highway, it is €1.50. You can view the toll price list for other categories of vehicles on the highway here.
