Tips for safe scooter riding in high temperatures in Montenegro

03. 09. 2026.

Although we can safely say that summer is one of the favourite seasons for many of us, high temperatures can be a real challenge. However, if you are by the sea, all of this becomes more bearable. With the right means of transport, summer heat does not have to be an obstacle to exploring everything Montenegro’s coast has to offer. If you are planning to rent a scooter in Montenegro during your holiday, it is important to know how to protect yourself from the heat and make your ride more enjoyable.

Summer scooter riding: what you need to know

1. Stay hydrated

When riding in high temperatures, your body loses much more fluid than usual, especially when you are exposed to the sun and warm air. That is why you should always have a bottle of water with you and drink regularly, even when you do not feel thirsty. Before a longer ride, take a break in the shade, refresh yourself and continue your journey only when you feel rested and hydrated. This will make your ride more comfortable, while your concentration and reactions on the road will remain at a much better level.

2. Protect yourself from the sun

Direct exposure to the sun during a longer ride can be exhausting. That is why you should wear light and breathable clothing, sunglasses and a helmet that provides good protection. Do not forget to apply sunscreen, especially to areas of skin that are exposed to the sun.

3. Take frequent breaks

Riding a scooter in high temperatures can be much more demanding than it may seem at first. That is why you should not wait until you feel tired or exhausted, but take regular breaks during your ride. Stop in a shaded area, cool down, drink plenty of water and rest for a few minutes before continuing your journey. Especially if you are planning a longer ride, more frequent breaks will help you maintain your concentration and enjoy your journey without putting unnecessary strain on your body.

4. Choose the right time to ride

If temperatures are particularly high during the day, try to plan your ride for the earlier morning or later afternoon hours. Temperatures are more pleasant at these times, the sun is less intense, and the ride is therefore much more comfortable. Besides making it easier to cope with the heat, you will also avoid the period when solar radiation is at its strongest.

When temperatures are high, good preparation makes the difference between a tiring and an enjoyable ride. So, before setting off, think about your departure time, route and everything you need for a safe ride.
